2009 Youth S.E.E.K. Camp
Summer Experience for Exceptional Kampers
June 15 - 19
Youth S.E.E.K. Camp is
a 5 day camp for youth ages 14-21 who have mental or physical challenges.
Our campers range in level of needs: some are completely self-sufficient,
while others are not mobile or verbal.
Held in Bridgeport, Texas, this camp is one our campers and counselors
look forward to with great anticipation every year. Campers participate
in a variety of activities during the day, such as arts and crafts,
music, recreation and swimming. Each camper has a “buddy,” a
youth counselor with whom they are matched to provide a 1 on 1
ratio between campers and counselors. Adults oversee all cabins,
are buddies to campers and assist with campers who have more intense
needs. Evening activities each year range from a talent show, a
dance, horseback riding with “Whispers of Hope” and
a carnival.
Parents are invited to visit camp on the Thursday
evening dance from 7:30-9:00 p.m. Each day concludes with a worship
service and devotional time, geared towards youth with special
needs. All junior and senior counselors must undergo a background
and reference check, as well as an application process that includes
2 days of training. The camp is run completely by a volunteer staff.
The
camp is open to persons of any faith, but is sponsored by the
United Methodist Church and is a Christian based camp. Registration
is limited to 40 campers and campers and counselors from past years
are given preference over new applicants.
