Dana Effler
Dana Effler has been the Director of Music and Arts Ministries at First United
Methodist Church since 1994. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education
from Furman University, a Masters Degree in Choral Conducting and a Masters
Degree in Vocal Performance from Southern Methodist University. Other professional
pursuits include her work as a singer, guest conductor, workshop clinician
and teacher for such organizations as the American Choral Directors Association,
Texas Choral Directors Association, Choristers Guild, and The Fellowship

Tim Effler
Tim has been the Organist/Associate Director of Music at First United Methodist
Church since September 1994. He holds a Bachelors Degree from Furman University
in Organ Performance, a Masters Degree in Accompanying/Vocal Coaching and
a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from Southern Methodist University.
Tim has served as President of the Greater Dallas Handbell Association and
on the Executive Board for the Dallas Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Phyllis Cummins
Phyllis Cummins is a third generation member of FUMC. She's held many different
positions at the church and several offices on committees/classes, and has
been Administrative Assistant in the Music & Arts Department since 1995.
Phyllis is also a longtime member of the Chancel Choir and Alleluya Ringers
and serves as both secretary and co-chair of ticket sales for the Rotunda
Theatre Series. She is a vital part of the Music and Arts team at First Church
and is frequently the first person you will encounter, either by telephone

Janet Slaughter
Janet Slaughter is the Coordinator of Children’s Choirs at FUMC and director of Counterpoint Choir (grades 4-6). She holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Baylor University and a Master of Arts Degree in music and theatre from TWU. Janet is the new music teacher at Armstrong Elementary in Highland Park ISD teaching music K-4. She has taught music to all ages and has over 21 years of teaching experience. Janet comes from a very musical family and has been involved in the leadership of church music all of her life. She enjoys singing in the FUMC Chancel Choir and in the ensemble, The Pipes of Gold. Janet enjoys working with the children at FUMC and hopes to pass on her love of making beautiful music to glorify God to the children at First Church. |

Marjorie Taylor
A long-time member of First Church, Marjorie directs the Steeple Ringers, Tower
Ringers, and Carillon Ringers and plays with the Alleluya Ringers. She has
on occasion played with the professional handbell group, the Dallas Handbell
Ensemble, and has led handbell workshops at elementary choir camps. She has been nationally certified as a handbell director by the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AEGHR). Her goal
for all her choirs is to make music rather than just playing notes. Weekdays,
she teaches 3rd grade at Yale Elementary School in Richardson. She holds
a degree in Theatre Arts and has appeared in numerous church and community
theatre productions. |

Kathy Mallick
Kathy Mallick has been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1965.
Kathy's family came to First Church when her father, Robert Wortley, was
hired as the Minister of Music in 1962. She has participated in every choir
from the Carol Choir as a child to the Chancel Choir as an adult. Kathy feels
honored to be a part of the Music Department and enjoys working with the
2nd and 3rd grade Cantate Choir. Kathy holds a degree in Early Childhood
Development from California State University with a minor in Music Education. |

Lindsey Mason
Lindsey Mason is our new Orff Ensemble and Carol Choir director. Lindsey grew
up in the music program at FUMC, and was the 1991 Wortley Scholarship recipient.
She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Philosophy in Music Education
at the University of North Texas . In addition, she holds a Master of Music
in Woodwind Performance from UNT and a Bachelors of Music Education from
Susqehanna University . Before her full-time pursuit of doctoral work, Lindsey
taught elementary music in Allen ISD. While in Allen, she acquired levels
of certification in both Orff and Kodaly, and began the Boyd Elementary Orff
Ensemble. Lindsey is enjoying working with children in the church
in which she grew up. |

Linda McClinchie
Linda McClinchie, a life-long member of FUMC Dallas, is the Assistant Director of Youth and Children's Handbells . She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in orchestral instruments, with a minor in music theory, and a Master of Music Degree in oboe and bassoon performance with a minor in orchestral conducting, both from the University of North Texas. Linda taught privately for over 20 years, and now homeschools her three children. Currently, Linda enjoys ringing in the Alleluya Ringers and singing in the Chancel Choir. |

Karla Wintle
Karla Wintle is the piano accompanist for the Carol, Cantate, and Counterpoint Children’s Choirs. She holds a Bachelors Degree of Music Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette . Karla has taught elementary music in the Dallas I.S.D. for over 30 years. She also enjoys singing in the FUMC Chancel Choir. Karla enjoys sharing her love of music with the children who participate in Children’s Choirs at First Church. |
